Review: Great Ocean Road & Twelve Apostles Tour

Posted on the 29 November 2019 by Tahlia Goulding @NoPlaneOldHols

This week I was lucky enough to have a visit from some friends who were keen for a trip down the Great Ocean Road. They’d never seen the 12 Apostles before and had been looking at some tours that would take them from Melbourne to the coast. After spending some time going back and forth about what tour we should do we settled on the Great Ocean Road & Twelve Apostles tour through Last Minute Day Tours. Shout out for the sweet discount for booking the day before!  So off we trudged, down the highway and away from Melbourne. We departed early, approximately 7:30 am (well, being honest I got a sleep in compared to usual!) and began our day. On the way to the coast we stopped off for some morning tea, and let me tell you, country Victorian bakeries know what they are doing. Be sure to grab yourself a slice or biscuit, absolutely delicious!  After a snack, it was back on the bus and onto the main event.  The 12 Apostles are truly a sight to behold, we were lucky enough to have a clear day when we were there, which made the view even better. Our guide was super informative and told us all about how the stacks were formed, why they fall and if they’ll be here much longer.Review: Great Ocean Road & Twelve Apostles Tour
After a stop for some pictures here, we followed the scenic walk around the top of the cliffs, enjoying the various angles of the Apostles, each better than the last. After this, we moved to Loch Ard Gorge, a beautiful gorge with a completely contained beach. We wandered the beach, the sand tickling us between our toes, and learnt about the devastating shipwrecks that occurred down this coast for years.  After spending our morning exploring we were well hungry, and our stop at Port Campbell was perfect for some lunch! We enjoyed fish and chips along the beach and ran through the shallows with the water splashing out ankles.  We ended our day with a stop at Apollo Bay to get one last glimpse of the beach, breathing in the fresh sea air. From here we headed to the Memorial Arch for one final photo opportunity. The arch is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road and is heritage listed! It was constructed in memory of the 3000 soldiers who built the Great Ocean Road after World War I.  Overall, we had a truly fantastic day and I cannot recommend this tour enough! It was so nice to not worry about how to get from point a to b, where to park, or even traffic. We just got to enjoy ourselves, plus with such a large amount of time allocated to each stop we never once felt rushed.   I cannot recommend this tour enough for anyone looking for a relaxing tour of the Great Ocean Road. Plus, with such an affordable ticket price, as a local, I was more than happy to join the tour with my visiting friends.  If you’re interested in the full itinerary, or want to book this tour in for yourself, head to the Last Minute Day Tours website and look for the Great Ocean Road & 12 Apostles Tour. Plus, remember that last minute bookings receive extra discount!
