I've had the device for a couple of weeks now. So i thought it was about time I could give a good and honest review of the phone. I bought the phone from antelife.com. They were a site I had heard was trustworthy. There are a lot of untrustworthy ones, so be careful. I paid about £130 plus postage of about £20, so as you can see a very good price for a phone, never mind one as good as this. It took about 8 days with +DHL, there tracking is excellent by the way!
When it arrived safe and sound I was eager to get my simcard in and get down to business with it. First I will tell you the boxes contents, there are 2 X 3500mAh batteries, data cable and plug with adapter, some cheap head phones and a cheap case, and of course the phone.
It is big, bigger than any phone I had got my hands on before. Its 5.7 Inch which is a touch bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I have moderately big hands and after a while found it pretty reasonable to handle. It's a good weight and not to slippy for when you are trying to use it one handed. The screen is nice, it's bright and very clear. I used my nexus 4 as comparison and couldn't see any difference. I'm 99% sure its never seen gorilla glass. Not that its scratched easily, it's just when you press hard enough on the screen it warps the image. You do have to press pretty hard though! The massive screen comes into its own when watching videos and when surfing the web.
Inside its hardware is impressive. It has uses a MTK6589 quadcore processor clocked at 1.2GHz, and 1GB ram. It also has a 8gb of on board storage for apps and the like, but an extra micro sd card can be used to expand the memory. I have not found the device to lag or have any problems running games i've played. The 3500 mAh battery is good, but because of the large screen it knocks the overall time down by a couple of hours. The battery life also depends on the usual stuff like having GPS on and wifi. I didn't notice much difference between having one sim in or two. Oh yeah forgot to say it has slots for two sim cards! The software to manage the sim cards is pretty good. You can choose which card handles the data, texts or phone calls. AnTuTu score
The software on board is practically stock android. They have done a few custom tweaks that don't always look finished. One great point about this device is that it comes pre rooted. It's the first device I've ever owned to be like that. I wish they all were!
This means that as soon as you get it you can install a root manager and remove any of the Chinese included apps, which there is a couple. A negative is that it doesn't benefit from having the sock android on screen buttons. You have a single button which you use to navigate the software. This takes a little getting used too. I did find a fix for that on +xda-developers here though. The camera is not to bad although I found photos to be a little washed out. So to conclude, I'm glad I took the risk and the time to spend my money on a long shot from China. I was far better than I anticipated, and all for the grand Total of £150. Comparing its stats to equal competition it is clear to see that the Goophone has a clear advantage over the rest of the field and that is the price. I think in the coming years these devices from China will start to make an impact on the western market. Companies like +Huawei and +OPPO are starting to make an impact already.
