Resurrection: A Zombie Audio Play

Posted on the 27 February 2012 by Floydian42 @Floydian42
As I hear it, blog's are suppose to be a means to start a dialog. I post something, readers reply, writers write something, I reply. This is one of those cases where I would particularly like if people were to reply.
See, I'm a fan of AMC's "The Walking Dead," and the action packed awesomeness of the last few weeks has re-surged a long rooted I've had for Zombies. It all started back in a boring high school class when a friend of mine turned and asked "what if a zombie came through that door right now?" Since then it's become one of my favorite bored-in-college-class daydream go-to's. Anywho, I digress.

Some time ago, a friend of mine who writes his own audioplays agreed to maybe help me write an audio play and he would take over recording it. I outlined and wrote some preliminary scripts for 12 five to ten minute episodes, though they were never completed. However, with this new found resurgence of passion, I might take another swing at it.
So here's what I'd like some feedback on. What exactly are the mechanics of a Zombie? What heightened senses do they have? What triggers the Zombie invasion? Here are my thoughts. The most important thing that everyone asks is "what causes the Zombies." See, for me, perhaps this is a little too classic of an approach, but if the Zombies created by a virus, then it's not really a Zombie. There needs to be a little supernatural in there. Plus, then the Zombie really is unbeatable, they just won't stop coming. It really would be the end of the world.
I hear that in the comic book for The Walking Dead, you didn't have to be bit or scratched to be infected, once anyone dies, they turn, unless their brain has been damaged. I like that, I think I'll keep it. Also, the Zombie's Achilles heal must stem from the brain. That's just a no brainier (haha, I'm funny)! Oh, and when someone is scratched, that does trigger the disease, and they attempt to fight off an unbeatable fever that kills them. Then, they turn.

As far as how the zombies operate physically, as long as a part of the body connects to the brain, it functions. They can rebuild muscle mass, unlike what Max Brooks says. I don't like the whole red eyes, afraid of sunlight hogwash. They're skin decays well they are dead, and when they resurrect, however much it decayed is where it stays. They can't bleed out, they lust for blood, they have no heightened smell capabilities, and uhh... does that cover it? Oh yeah, they can sprint, sure!
I guess I thought I would go more in depth with this, but alas. It's a start, right? Let me know what you think!
