6 Helpful Tips Before Applying For The Restaurant Job

1)   When going into an establishment and asking for an application don't have a hand full of other applications with you. If you have other applications in your hand, it makes it look like you are applying to any and every place in the area and employers won’t think that you truly want to work at that establishment, but instead anywhere that will hire you.

2)   Dress professionally when picking up applications. Just because you are only picking up the application doesn't mean that people at the establishment aren't evaluating you already.  First impressions are extremely important and you only get one chance to make one!

3)   Tailor your résumé to the establishment in which you are applying. Don’t just have a generic résumé that could be sent to any restaurant, factory, nursing home or any other business.

4)   Take a look a look at the menu before you interview. During the interview they may ask you questions regarding their menu, and if they don’t it would really make you stand out if you were able to recall or talk about some of the items in their menu.

5)   Take a good look at your email address. If you have a personal email address that is even slightly inappropriate, immature or just plain old weird, I would strongly suggest creating a more professional email address and using it for any and all of your future job searches.

6)   Consider bringing with you to the interview multiple copies of your tailored résumé. You do this in case there will be multiple interviewers present and to make sure that all interviewers have the opportunity to see your qualifications on paper.  It is also a great way for you to showcase the fact that you have prepared for this interview and are handling it with the utmost respect possible.
