Last weekend I was apartment hunting in West London. If you have ever been looking for an apartment I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that it is exhausting. Endless row of apartments to visit with yet another eager real estate agent. Checking if there is – or in a true London-style what there is wrong with a place that seems perfect, but somehow you have that feeling that there might be something you are overlooking while gasping at that huge fireplace or that mesmerizing view. Just after a few weeks looking for an apartment I think I have seen pretty much everything – a refrigerator in the living room next to the tv and sofa, a washing machine in the bedroom and – get this – a bathtub in the living room (nope, cannot come up with any reasonable explanation for that). All that hunting can make anybody hungry. And you cannot picture how happy I was when I stepped out of yet another suspiciously ‘perfect’ place and saw one of my fave restaurants – Jackson + Rye just a couple of doors down.
The American establishment Jackson + Rye London is fairly new to the restaurant scene here. But it seems like they are popping up everywhere now. I am partial to American style restaurants anyways due to several years spent in sunny California a lifetime ago. So it’s heartwarming to see old favourites like Reuben sandwich, Crab Cakes or pancakes on the menu.
First things first – you have to start a late lunch with some wine and House Olives with Toasted Fennel Seed, Orange Zest & Garlic.
Then escalate things with something like Toasted Reuben Sandwich or…
… maybe Steak & Eggs.
Afternoon pick me up in a form of espresso is definitely a must.
End it all with a sweet taste in your mouth from Toasted Marshmallows with Blood Orange Sorbet & Chocolate Sauce.
Jackson + Rye London has a relaxed atmosphere, great staff and good food. What else do you need? And if you are wondering I did figure out what’s wrong in that ‘perfect’ place I mentioned earlier, so my apartment hunting will continue…
