Some of the residents in a care home in the Bedfordshire town of Shefford have been moved to other local care homes following a damning report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on standards at the facility.
The twelve elderly residents of the Lavender House dementia unit at the Meppershall Care Home have been temporarily relocated as a result of recent findings. A CQC inspection in May 2013 found a total of 11 breaches of care and welfare standards, with problems including a shortage of experience and qualified staff who had undergone the right level of care training. The safety of the residents was also a major concern.
In addition to moving the residents, the CQC has told the council to close the home to new admissions until urgent improvements can be made. GA Projects, the owner of the Meppershall Care Home, has now released a statement confirming that it is making changes:
“We’re working hard with the authorities to bring the home back up to the standard it should be.
“We look forward to a future in which we provide an excellent standard of care to our elderly and vulnerable residents.”
