Report: Google Car Hits Bus To Avoid Sandbag

By Nottheworstnews @NotTheWorstNews

The AP reports that Google has updated its driverless car software after a car driving around sandbags assumed a bus would yield to it. Nobody was hurt, making this a victory for sandbags everywhere.

3 Questions That Arise From This Story

  1. So the software assumed the bus driver would be courteous and yield? Sounds like Google will have to modify its software further to reflect real-world driver courtesy. We’re looking your way Manhattan drivers.
  2. Could this all have been avoided with a driverless bus? We don’t know, but a world with driverless buses could have avoided elevating Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves’ careers in Speed. Thanks for not inventing driverless buses, earlier, Google, the world could have avoided the Miss Congeniality movies.
  3. Isn’t it ironic that in a world with no Miss Congeniality movies that robotic buses would me more congenial and yield to drivers? Trick question: it was a driverless car – were you not paying attention at all?
