Rejuvenating

Spring is here!

New York was absolutely beautiful this past weekend.  It was in the 60s and 70s, with a light breeze… sundress weather has arrived!  The weekend was absolutely perfect.  It felt really long… really full.  It was a mix of work and exercise (a habit I’m really trying to get back into), family and friends.

My parents came over on Friday, and we all went out to Fatty’s Café for dinner.  Back in my running days, I used to pass Fatty’s all the time.  I’ve heard rave reviews of their brunch and casual menu, and was really glad we tried it.  We started with a round of the “soup of the day”- aka mojitos.  I usually don’t order mojitos or margaritas in restaurants because I can’t stand it when they’re made with the sugary stuff from a bottle.  Fatty’s mojitos were made with fresh lime juice, and were so good my dad ordered one sans alcohol.

Perfectly cooked salmon for me, burritos + quesadillas for everyone else.  (The fish came with asparagus and zucchini; asparagus contains FODMAPS so I just left it on the plate.)

On Saturday, B and I consulted our whiteboard for ideas, and headed to Thymari for dinner.   I’d only been for brunch (which I love); I’d bought an Amazon Local coupon for dinner a few weeks ago and was excited to try it out.  The $40 coupon justified this $46 bottle of (delicious) Greek Sauvignon Blanc.  I haven’t had a lot of Greek wine, and am not a huge fan of retsina, the traditional white wine made from pine, but this was perfect.

B and I shard an appetizer, entrée and dessert, which ended up being the perfect amount of food.  To start, an order of fabulous grilled octopus:

For our main, we tried the baked sea bass with roasted new potatoes, sautéed arugula, cherry tomatoes, capers, shallots, olives and garlic.  We asked for the sauce on the side, which may be why the arugula wasn’t sautéed, but it was much better this way!  It was a 2-in-1 salad + fish.

For dessert, we shared the milopitaapple cake topped with pumpkin+ yogurt cream.   So, okay, this is all kinds of “wrong” in FODMAPS land (wheat, apple, dairy, and who knows what else), but it was delicious.  I’ve been following the low-FODMAPS plan for a month now, and while I’ve done my best to do everything “right,” I’m not perfect.  But I just wanted to share a “real” dessert with my boyfriend on our date night, and it was worth it.

On Sunday, B and I went to one of the showings at the Tribeca Film Festival with our friends Delia and Melissa.  We saw “A Case of You,” a quirky romantic comedy with an enormous cast.  Evan Rachel Wood with the female lead (opposite Justin Long), and I really liked her in it! It seems that she’s been type-casted ever since “13,” playing a lot of sexually precocious, troubled young women.  And she’s good at it!  But it was nice to see her in a different role this time.

One of the cast members, Tom Morrissey, came out of the theater soon after we did, and Melissa caught him for a photo op!  He had some funny one-liners.

After the movie, B and I walked over to Chelsea Market to browse.  ”Browsing” doesn’t really happen at Chelsea Market (there are so many amazing food stalls) and we realized we were getting hungry.  (Correction: yours truly was getting hangry.)  We shared three massive rolls from The Lobster Place, and made plans to go back for oysters.  (I’ve been experimenting with avocado; so far, so good!)

Aside form food, I finally got a chance to test out my new Ellie outfit this weekend!  It’s my favorite so far, and is part of their Little Black Collection.

I received the black widow tank and little black leggings.

I LOVE this tank top!  How awesome is the back?!  I also love that it’s long, and didn’t ride up at all while I was working out.  I also wore it around outside- with no sweater, yay spring!- before going to the gym, and would totally wear it without exercising.

I also really love the leggings; they have a wide waistband so there’s no uncomfortable “tire effect,” and the spandex is really high quality.  The legs are also long, which is great for wearing with flats so your ankles don’t get all blistered.  I may like them more then my Lululemon Wunder Unders… which is good, because these are half the price.

I know some of you have had trouble with Ellie’s customer service in the past, but they’ve just taken on an entirely new management team and my recent interactions with them have been really solid.

While I received my outfit free, the opinions expressed here are my own.  For 20% off all Ellie workout gear, including the above outfit and their recently launched Coral Crush collection (which I’m lusting over), click the link below.

Well, I’m off to class!  This morning, I registered for my fall classes, which completely blows my mind.  I’m almost done with my first semester of grad school, which will quickly be followed by summer’s, then fall, then… this time next year I’ll have my MSW!  Where is the time going?  But I am so, so happy I chose this path and feel really invigorated by the curriculum.  Hope to tell you more about it soon!

What’s new and exciting?
