Samsung has just announced its latest flagship of 2018. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus have just made their debut at the ongoing MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The latest Samsung flagship may not be an entirely new design then the last years Galaxy S8 or S8+, however, it does come with a set of powerful hardware and slick cool features that may get you go WOW!! Let us have a look at the top Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus features but first, let’s talk about Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus specifications.

Without any doubt, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and S9 carry some incredibly powerful hardware specifications and while the design was already leaked, we never expected an entirely new design this time.

The Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ (2960 × 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity display with 570ppi along Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. While the S9 Plus comes with a slightly larger 6.2-inch Quad HD+ (2960 × 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity display and the same Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.

The phones will be available in two processor variants, an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU or Octa-Core Samsung Exynos 9 Series 9810 processor with Mali G72MP18 GPU depending on your geolocation. The S9 comes with 4GB RAM with 64GB/128GB/256GB storage while the S9 Plus houses 6GB LPDDR4x RAM with 64GB/128GB/256GB storage.

Other major difference between both the latest Samsung phone is their optics. The Galaxy S9 comes with a 12MP Dual Pixel rear camera with LED Flash and f/2.4-f/1.5 variable aperture. It supports 480fps super slow motion video while the S9 Plus comes with dual camera setup and has 12MP primary rear camera with f/2.4-f/1.5 variable aperture, LED Flash, 960fps super slow motion video and a 12MP secondary rear camera with f/2.4 aperture.

A 3000mAh battery with fast Charging both on wired and wireless charging powers the Galaxy S9 while a slightly beefier 4000 mAH battery powers the S9 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus AR emoji

AR emoji is a feature that uses the front camera on the Galaxy S9 or S9 plus to create your 2D animated version by mapping with 100 different facial expressions and then lets you create your 3D version. These can be used to create videos or clips of your personalized animated avatar.

AR emoji is highly customizable and lets you put in different backgrounds and lets you save it as gif, pictures, video or images etc. One of the key Galaxy S9 Features that alone can push you to buy this flagship phone from Samsung.

Super-Slow-Motion video

Another highlighting Galaxy S9 Feature is its super slow motion video. The camera can record videos at 960 frames per second at 720p and 240 frames per second @ 1080p. This is insane and the best part is that the camera is intelligent enough to identify the exact moment that needs to go slowmo.

One recorded the video clip can be used in multiple ways. It can be converted to a GIF, a moving wallpaper. A pretty interesting and a useful feature of Galaxy S9 given the powerful hardware present under the hood.

Variable Aperture Camera

This is a highlighting Galaxy S9 Features and S9 Plus Feature. In fact, this is the first time we are seeing a smartphone camera that comes with variable aperture size. To put this in layman terms, the aperture on the phone will adapt according to the amount of light available. This is exactly like the human eyes which expand or contract when we move from a brightly lit location to a dimly lit one.

Easily the most interesting feature of Galaxy S9: A mechanical, variable-aperture camera 👀

The camera on Galaxy S9 can switch from F/2.4 to F/1.5 thus letting is click really good low light images. Both the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will feature this variable aperture feature, however, with the Galaxy S9 Plus, this will be available on the main wide angle lens while the secondary lens is a telephoto lens.

The best part is that you can actually see the change of aperture on the phone. That’s cool Samsung!

Live Translation

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is powered by AR and that enables it to do tonnes of different things that we can just imagine about. For an example, if you’re traveling somewhere and you find a signboard or some notice in a local language, all you need to do is to point your camera and viola it will do the live translation, instantly for you. You don’t need to even click any image. This is indeed a very helpful and practical Galaxy S9 feature for frequent travelers.

Dex

The Galaxy S8 came with Dex, which would let us use the powerful smartphone as a portable processing unit. Just plug display to dex, dock your phone and bingo you have a powerful desktop that you can use right away. Dex or “Desktop Experience” is one of the most improved features of Galaxy S9 from the previous generation. You can now place the all-new Galaxy s9 or Galaxy S9 Plus on the DEX and once plugged into a display, not only your phone now has become a powerful CPU but also a controller. The new DEX setup lets you use your phone as a controller, mouse or Keyboard. Thus eliminating the use of a separate keyboard and mouse as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ is still a dust and water resistant comes with wireless charging and most importantly it comes with a headphone jack. It comes in 4 color variants Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and Lilac Purple colors. The phone is priced at $719.99 (Rs. 46590 approx.) and $839.99 (Rs. 54350 approx.), respectively and will be available starting on March 16, 2018. Meanwhile, Samsung has already started pre-bookings for the phone in India, so we can expect the phone launched in India soon as well.
