What do you need to Read?
If you do not clearly state out why you are reading, it is possible you find yourself reading anything you come across. There are several materials out there as there are authors begging for people’s attention. Authors write for various reasons, addressing different issues. You need to find out why you read what you read and being able to sort this out is very important.

  • Read materials that will give you deeper knowledge in the area of your purpose. These could include biographies of people who thread the same path you are now threading.
  • Read books that will equip you to have a bit of information about every issue of life, so that you can become a knowledgeable individual. A knowledgeable man always knows something about everything about something.

When you need to read
Reading should be an ongoing activity. Whenever you stop reading, then you start to die. Some students only read for examination purpose alone. Some, after successfully leaving school with good grade, sign off from active reading.

It is true that we go to school to acquire necessary literacy ability in order to develop our individual capacity for maximum impact. So, while schooling is periodic, reading should be a life time activity. However, here are some rules you should follow for effective reading.

  • Don’t stop reading because it is boring, you can recreate the moment you desire.
  • Don’t stop reading because you feel you don’t have the time, you will always have this excuse.
  • Don’t stop reading because the vocabularies are too complex, you can always make use of the dictionary.
  • Don’t stop reading because it is not your hobby, you can always make yourself love the habit.
  • Don’t read because that is the last option you have, make it “a must do”

Ways you need to read
Read thoughtfully: Give careful thought to the content of the book you are reading.

Read Repeatedly: Sometimes, you need to read more than once in order to grasp the message the book is passing across.

Read Patiently: Do not be in a hurry to finish a book, take time to understand the content of the book.

Read Meditatively: Take time to ruminate in whatever you have read.

Read Telescopically: Try to see beyond the pages of the book you are holding.

Read Purposefully: Don’t be a casual reader, read with the aim of acquiring something tangible from the article.

Read Imaginatively: Reason along with the author; try to figure out what he is actually passing across to the reader.

“If we commit ourselves to reading thus increasing our knowledge, only God limit how far we can go in this world”. [Ben Carson]
