Rampur Double Cask is the latest release from the Indian distillery. We all know Amrut and Paul John, but Rampur tends to fly under the radar in the conversation about Indian Whisky. I’m not sure if it’s because they’re playing a purposefully slow game in the market or if Amrut and PJ are just better at making noise.
In my little corner of the earth and the internet I think it’s a combination of both. The last time I remember seeing Rampur was in 2017 when I tried their flagship single malt and since then heard barely a peep till now. Meanwhile, I see Amrut, and especially Paul John, constantly making announcements and delivering new things to the market.
This is first major peep I’ve seen/heard from them in over 4 years, so let’s get to drinkin’ and see what they’ve been up to.

Apple cider, oak, honey, nuts, dried tropical fruit, malty sweetness and a bit of herbal notes.
Nice, this is soft and fruity without being spineless, a nice profile to start.

Herbal, apple cider, dried pears, nuts, malty sweet, nutmeg, white pepper and some oak and tropical fruit.
A very slight cocoa note appears as it opens, but on the whole it’s herbally fruity.
FINISH
Medium -> Malty, herbal, touchy oaky and baking spice.
BALANCE, BODY and FEEL
Good balance, medium-full body and a warm velvety feel.
Rampur Double Cask – Overall Thoughts and Score
Rampur has come a long way from its initial offering. This has a warmer character and brings more fruity notes to make this an easy-sipping whisky I think most malt fans would appreciate.
It doesn’t quite have the richness or refinement of a Paul John or an Amrut, but then it took Paul John and Amrut a while to develop the richness, refinement and profiles they have now. Rampur Double Cask is a decent, sippable whisky and Rampur is getting better all the time. Definitely, a brand to keep an eye on.
SCORE: 3/5 (above average, worth checking out ~ B- | 80-82)
