This small Sydney-based girl group are going big places.

little may

Australian girl band Little May are truly an undiscovered gem. With only a handful of songs available online across their Soundcloud & Youtube pages and their website, it’s easy to see how bright their future looks.

This 3-piece group make soulful indie-folk and their music sounds like the product of years of hard work and fine-tuning, but members Hannah Field, Liz Drummond and Annie Hamilton formed Little May just over a year ago. This makes it a little easier to understand why they have not yet been signed; they’re probably playing their cards right, biding their time and waiting for the right opportunities to come along.

The closest comparisons to this band I can draw up would be the likes of Lanterns on the Lake, The Staves, Lucy Rose, and The Acorn.Their second single and video, ‘Hide’, was released a few days ago. Take in all of its mesmerizing glory below:

Little May manage to turn something as cliché as being pissed off at your crap boyfriend into a really beautiful masterpiece. They embody the spirit of ‘girl power!’, with less peace signs and seasoning-related nicknames, and more harmonies and guitar strumming. Their first video, ‘Boardwalks’, is similarly captivating, with softly-lit shots of the group and the South-East coast of Australia forming the perfect backdrop for sweet song about letting go.

Sadly the videos above are two thirds of the songs I’ve been able to track down of Little May’s, but I look forward to hearing plenty more from them in the future, and expect equally magnificent music videos.

Check out their Soundcloud page here.
