Former chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed passes away
Former chief of Jamaat-i-Islami and veteran politician Qazi Hussain Ahmed passed away in Islamabad early on Sunday. He was of 74.
His health deteriorated three days ago after which he had been shifted to a hospital in F-10 Islamabad. However, at 1:00 am he suffered a heart attack which claimed his life.
His funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday at 3 pm at Jinnah Park in Peshawar.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed last November narrowly escaped a bomb attack when a woman bomber blew herself up near his convey in northwest Mohmand Agency.
He severed as the third Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami from 1987 to 2009 and was succeeded by Syed Munawar Hasan. He also served as the last head of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, a coalition of religious and theocratic parties.
Qazi Hussain left behind two sons and two daughters.
