Abby here.
Before I got married, I was living with a family in a gorgeous part of New Braunfels, Texas. Every night after work I would load something new on my iPod, and hit the pavement for a solid 4 miles. It was a delightful place to run.
I never missed a day.
It was my priority, and I will say I got a little too obsessed. Finally, a few of my dear friends staged a minor intervention and let me know I had to a night of skip running and have a girls night (or two) with them. I think that’s what you call good friends.
Fast forward 5 years, 2 babies and a move to a much colder climate, I could hardly jog a block.
My life now won’t really allow for a daily 4 mile run, unless of course I want to do it pushing a stroller… which is not my idea of a good time.
I’m active with the kids and I’m not a couch potato, but my body was… well… squishy. So finally, about 4 weeks ago, I decided enough is enough.
Even if I could only jog a block, I needed to jog that block.
I figured a new pair of running shoes and the warm weather wouldn’t hurt either.
Guess what? I did it, and slowly (ohh so slowly) I’m running more and more.
I’m starting small. Long walks when I can, and squeezing in short jogs here and there when I have a chance. And I’m giving myself GRACE.. lots of it.
After one short month of just getting started, I can honestly say this is the best I’ve felt in a long, long time.
It helps my mood, my self esteem and my energy.
So if you’re like me and felt it is impossible to ever get back into an exercising routine, here’s all I have to offer:
