Pushed out of the Comfort Zone

Pushed out of the comfort zoneAnother guest blogger this time from Adam Barnett for Greenfield College. Over to you Adam

Mary Shelley wrote that it was “with an anxiety amounting almost to agony” that Frankenstein prepared to create the creature, and although I can’t say I was discovering the secret of life, I felt a similar feeling at approaching the prospect of going on a work placement. Having had less than successful work placements in the past, I wasn’t altogether hyped up over the idea; however I’ve been more than pleasantly surprised at an experience which, admittedly, was out of my comfort zone.
I feel that the opportunity to see what it is really like in the world of work has been a very useful one for me; writing press releases was a style of writing that was different to anything I’d done before, and the research skills I’ve developed will help me when I begin writing a dissertation back at College. Though personally, I feel that my best achievement is that by the end of the week the staff at Café Nero remembered both my name and my order. Well, that’s either an achievement or an embarrassing-truth-that-should-never-be-uttered-again, I haven’t decided which yet.
Thank you for having me this week,
Adam
