I nearly called this post ‘The Furst Few Days’, get it? But I thought that was a bit sad. Pretty witty for my sloth mind though so I did chuckle to myself when I thought of it. On my last pupdate, I think I mentioned that Rufus wouldn’t be coming home until August 8th… Well look who is here and it isn’t that date yet! Last week I got an email from his original owners saying he had his vet check at 7 weeks and was totally healthy, and as he wasn’t dependent on his mam anymore at all he could come home at the weekend! I was absolutely beside myself with excitement as I thought I would have to wait another week, and the two or three day wait seemed to last a life time.

The first day: We picked him up on Friday morning and he didn’t really act the way I expected, I thought he would be quiet and slightly shy, missing his parents and litter mates.. but I was totally wrong! He settled in within about half an hour, and before I knew it he was running around the house with me chasing behind him. He was pretty well behaved that night too, we are crate training to help with the house training process so he sleeps in my bedroom in a crate meaning that when he cries during the night to go to the toilet I can hear him. I think he woke up about four times on Friday, but after every time he had been to the toilet he went straight back to bed and fell asleep!

Since then it has gotten harder, and I seriously think it would be easier with looking after a baby. I’m so sleep deprived, this morning he woke me up by barking at me at 5am and didn’t even need to go to the toilet, and because he just tries to chew/go to the toilet everywhere I have to follow his every move around the house. At least with a baby it can wear a nappy and go in a cot! He is getting slightly better through the night actually, he seems to be able to last a little longer from going to bed until his first ‘help I need a wee’ cry, and any improvement is a good one no matter how small!

He is totally worth it all though. He is the cutest little ball of fluff I’ve ever seen, and he is already getting the hang of ‘Rufus come’, and ‘sit’, which I am rather pleased about considering he hasn’t even been here a week yet. It’s all the cute little things he does that I love, like sit at the back door staring out into the garden, or falling asleep with his head resting on the dining room chair! Oh, and he’s met my cat Homer, it’s the funniest thing seeing these two together as the size difference is hilarious! Homer is about three times the size of him. At first there was a bit of hissing from the cat, now Rufus barks at him and wants to follow him everywhere. I’m not quite sure if Homer understands he is a dog, and the look in his eye and the swish of his tail when he sees Rufus running around makes me a bit worried he thinks he’s a guinea pig or something else he would like to eat!

I’m going to make these little pupdates a weekly thing and they will usually go up on a Friday, I hope you enjoy reading them and even if you don’t I can treat it as a little diary of Rufus growing up :)
