Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood has resigned following Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) massive victory in the May 11 general elections.

Ahmed Mehmood said he has tendered his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari, adding he’ll continue to serve as the worker of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Ahmed Mehmood, who took over the post on December 25 last year following the resignation of Sardar Latif Khosa, said people have rejected PPP due to load shedding, inflation, and unemployment and have given mandate to PML-N, who should form government and deliver.

He said PPP, who could manage to secure just 33 of 272 National Assembly seats, has a philosophy and ideology and it couldn’t be finished in one election.

Ahmed Mehmood also congratulated Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for emerging as new political force.
