Programmer Analyst

Permanent, Full-Time position

In 18 schools spread over Greater Sudbury, Markstay, and Killarney, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board in Northeastern Ontario educates about 6,000 children. With a physical area of 3,627 square kilometers, Greater Sudbury is the second-biggest municipality in Canada and the largest in Ontario. With 330 lakes including Lake Wanapitei, the biggest lake in a city, Greater Sudbury is referred to be a city of lakes. A Programmer Analyst is needed by the Board to work with our thriving Information Management Services team.

Essential Qualifications

Education / Certification

Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety in 4 Steps Training, 3-year college degree in computer science, software development, database development & administration, or a similar subject (available on-line, click here)

Experience Required

Enterprise level application, programming, and database design, development, and maintenance experience spanning four years in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of education industry information systems and experience working in a school board environment are assets for the post.

Key Activities

Participates in the efficient and reliable operation of corporate systems (such as HRP, Finance, and Student Information System), as well as the interfaces between them and third-party systems/solutions, including data synchronization between HRP, student information system (SIS), email, and Active Directory systems (under the functional direction of the Senior Programmer Analyst).

Participates in the management and administration of corporate and student data (SIS, HRP, Finance, etc.), including analysis, information gathering, and insight into pertinent business intelligence obtained for those data sources.

Perform data analysis, manipulation, migration, and integration of company data and systems, including those of third parties, in order to satisfy system requirements.

To address identified issues, do research, provide suggestions, and design/develop creative and efficient programming solutions (using a range of tools and/or applications, such as Excel, PowerBI, etc.).

Assist with technical assistance for end-users and provide technical help for a variety of platforms, including Web servers, internal custom systems, Office 365 apps, Sharepoint, Teams, and Exchange Online.

Knowledge and Skills

solid experience in enterprise-level scripting and programming (including open source as well as Microsoft based environments)

solid experience with systems analysis and writing out design specifications.

strong data manipulation and analysis skills, expertise with Excel, and the capacity to effectively express information

basic understanding of copyright laws and software licensing principles.

Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly when it comes to assisting with the development, operation, and upkeep of student information, financial, and HRP systems (both on-premise and 3rd party services).

To illustrate and explain general and complicated system and information themes, rules, and practices, one needs strong communication and interpersonal skills. the capacity to appropriately react to questions from other departments, different ministries, and Board partners. The structure and substance of communication must be adjusted with skill for audiences with various levels of technological proficiency. Ability to provide a clear knowledge of the requirements while actively listening to and addressing the end user’s demands.

Exceptional attention to detail and the capacity to deliver accurate information in a timely manner despite juggling several deadlines.

Occasional travel to schools under the Board’s jurisdiction necessitates the possession of a serviceable car and a driver’s license in good standing.

The annual salary range for this position is $66,468 to $83,092 with a comprehensive benefit package.
