However, whilst a film might not be in the pipeline, a TV series is, and yes you did read that right!!
American television channel A&E (which stands for Arts & Entertainment, not Accident & Emergency!!) has commissioned the series to made without even making a pilot episode, which is quite uncommon in American television. The series is apparently going to be focused on the early years in the life of Norman Bates, so I'm imagining creepy undertones with his mother.
I'm definitely intrigued at the prospect of this TV series, a lot more than I would of a film, but I'm not really too sure about the choice of actor to play Bates.
Freddie Highmore, perhaps best known for his role as Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has been cast in the lead role and I have to admit that I'm not certain that Highmore will be able to pull off a role like this. Personally, I don't think that he is a very strong actor and I think that there are many other actors who would be much better suited to the role.
By weird coincidence, I recently joked that Spider Man actor Andrew Garfield should play Norman Bates because I think that he looks quite a lot like Anthony Perkins. It's just a shame that Garfield is probably a bit too old to play this role!!
The role of Bates' mother will be played by Orphan actress Vera Farmiga, and apparently production will commence sometime next month.
