Product Review | Tefal Uno Blender

Product Review | Tefal Uno BlenderSince I’m going to start my juice fast very soon and I’ll be uploading recipes for juices and smoothies, I thought it would be a good idea to review the blender I use. A blender is an essential if you’re planning a DIY juice fast, but it’s also great to have in your kitchen for making soups, breakfast smoothies, homemade almond milk etc.  They don’t have to be expensive either - if you’re new to the whole smoothie thing and don’t want to shell out £400+ for a Vitamix (or equivalent), then the Tefal Uno is ideal.

At only £22, it’s less than 10% of the price of a Vitamix, making it a great, low-cost place to start. I spent ages umming and ahhing about whether to spend more, but after numerous trips to Currys and reading lots of positive Amazon reviews, I settled for this one.  So rest assured, this is a well-researched £20 blender, which doesn’t perform like a “cheap option” at all.

No leaks!

My main gripe with my previous blender was that it leaked, so when I started looking for a replacement, I dismantled a whole load blenders (in Currys!) and put them back together to see how likely they were to leak.  That’s part of what sold me on this one – there are no bits and pieces that come apart, just the base and the jug (and the lid obv!). Some blenders have jugs that are made up of more multiple pieces that screw together, but the jug on the Tefal Uno is one piece of moulded plastic - there are no rubber washers etc in there, which have the potential to allow liquid to seep out.  The fact that it is one moulded piece of plastic makes it super quick and easy to clean too.

The Power

For a cheapy option, this blender is very powerful and I’ve not had any trouble blending up anything I put in there. To give you an idea, I use it to make smoothies, soups, houmous, pancake mix, marinades/sauces e.g. green thai curry etc. As long as there is a little bit of liquid, the blender manages to drag down the various bits I’ve chucked in towards the blades and puree them, in a very vitamixy type way (I’ve seen the YouTube videos!) I’ve yet to put something in that hasn’t blended to my satisfaction. Blenders in general do need at least a little bit of liquid to work, unlike food processors, which can chop dry ingredients.  For the Tefal Uno, it doesn’t need a lot of liquid at all though. When I make marinades, a few tablespoons of whatever liquid I'm using, e.g. soy sauce, orange juice, water etc., is enough to get it to work.

The Only Con

It does only have one speed setting and a “pulse” setting - some blenders have loads of speed settings. I’ve never needed more than just one, and it make it simpler to use, but in the interest of full disclosure…

Final Words...

For the price it is definitely worth it – a necessary piece of kitchen equipment, which doesn’t have to be too costly. You can find it on Amazon, here

Review coming up for my juicer (Philips HR1861), which you will also need if you are planning a DIY juice fast...
