President Zardari’s Chief Security Officer Killed in Suicide Blast

President Asif Ali Zardari’s Chief Security Officer — Bilal Sheikh– was killed along with three others in a suicide attack in the Gurumandir area of Karachi on Wednesday.

Several others, including seven policemen and the private guards of Bilal were injured in the blast.

The bomber followed Bilal’s vehicle and blew himself up when he got off his vehicle to buy fruit from roadside vendor near Jamia Banoria.

The rescue officials rushed to the spot immediately and rushed the victims to Jinnah Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors pronounced the death of Bilal, his driver Irfan Zaidi and fruit vendor Abdul Rehman. Five injured are said to be in critical condition and death toll is feared to climb.

According to bomb disposal squad, five kilogram explosive materials were used in the blast and it was packed with ball bearings. No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far.

President Zardari strongly condemned the attack saying “Bilal had rendered many sacrifices for the PPP and that he was not just a bodyguard but more like a son.” He said that such cowardly acts will not deter their resolve to fight terrorism.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and several other social, political and religious figures also condemned the attack.
