Prepare For Summer – Top Tip Number 1 – To Wax Or Not To Wax?

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

Hi All,

Finally the sun has decided to grace us with it’s presence and I am suddenly left wondering about summer outfits and the beauty regime I now need to start. As many of you may know, I am always on the look out for the best beauty deals and treatments, especially when it comes to hair removal – yes ladies we all have those stubborn areas, like chins – very annoying.

Prepare For Summer – Top Tip Number 1 – To Wax or Not To Wax?

I have always been a fan of the humble leg wax for summer, mainly because it saves me time, you don’t get left with razor burn and it leave your skin smooth. So for this pre summer preparation post, here are my top waxing tips and where to go for the best results.

Warm or Cold

This is the first question that many people get confused by and it’s easy to see why, when there are so many different options for different areas. I would always suggest using warm/ hot wax for legs as I find it sticks to the hairs better and gives me a smoother result. This week I have joined Groupon looking for waxing establishments in my area and found some amazing deals on warm waxing for legs and underarms. Perfect, all I need to do now is try them.

I find, that warm wax last approximately 6-8 weeks for me, so I need to judge when the warmer weather is going to arrive, so that I can time it right.

Always go to trusted establishments

Wherever you live, there will be a number of reputable beauticians that you can go to for waxing needs, not forgetting that there are some specifically designed places like The Brazilian Waxing Company. By doing a quick search for waxing London, or wherever you are, you will see the amount of places for you – most importantly – before you book read the reviews!!! You don’t want to be left with bruising etc.

I also check that places have up to date licenses, call me a stickler for rules, but it is my body at the end of the day. There are also many people who shouldn’t wax, if you have had allergic reactions to wax in the past or you suffer from eczema, you should extra careful. This article from Womans Day is really useful for determining if waxing, shaving or laser removal is right for you. Talking about Laser hair removal – their are many great deals about for this also, I have had it done on my face and the results are fantastic, worth looking into and a lot less painful than electrolysis.

At the end of the day, if you are considering waxing for the first time – remember that it is better than shaving as it removes the entire hair, creating a longer lasting, fuzz free appearance  Oh and remember the pain doesn’t last!

Before you get waxed

There are certain rituals I make before my appointment. I will always trim any longer hairs on my legs – let’s face it, in winter your don’t shave as much. I also exfoliate my skin the day before to make sure that I remove any dirt and unblock my pores. This will help protect my skin after the treatment.
Before I go in, I make sure that I have a shower, I don’t use shower gel, just plain old water.

After the treatment

As we all know, our skin can be red and irritated afterwards and needs some TLC! Here are some great ways to protect your skin from burning, itching and infection – some I have tried and some I have learnt from past mistakes!

1. Do not use moisturizer afterwards – trust me it will burn
2. No sunbathing or tanning treatments for 48 hours – This is why you have it done well in advance of your holidays!
3. Don’t jump in a HOT bath afterwards – I have done this and it really hurt!!!!!!
4. Keep your legs bare for 24 hours, come on and show them off.

So there you have it – we all need to go out and grab some deals to see us through a fuzz free summer! I also think groupon may help with my 29 things to do before i’m 30 - NICE!
