Vive la Paris!
The LGBT-whisperer of television networks, Showtime has tapped Precious director Lee Daniels to direct a new Showtime series about the LGBT ball house culture. The series will be set in New York City and will profile the disenfranchised multicultural youth that seek out the ball house culture to fill a void a familial void.
While throughout history, the ethnicity of the ball culture has changed, with folks not even agreeing on when the culture just started. When it comes to this day and age, the focus is more on the family/fraternity aspect of the ball “houses,” where black, Latino LGBT communities come together to dance and compete for trophies and prizes.
It is nice to see Showtime bring another LGBT series into the fold, since Queer as Folk and the L-Word have gone off the air – “quality” LGBT shows have been lacking. Not to mention, it’ll be nice to have a show focused on a diverse LGBT cast, for once.
