Poor Animal by Zola Jesus.

Posted on the 21 March 2012 by Melodicwisdom

It took a while for this song to grow on me. I couldn’t stand the repeated sounds of shaking metal sheets (even though I know it was a mix) throughout the song. I finally got used to it though, maybe I’ve actually learned to ignore it and lately I’ve been listening to it.

It’s not always easy to understand Zola’s lyrics but once you get used to her voice, you start to hear what she’s saying. I definitely have to give her one thing though, she’s good with beats. She does all her recording and mixing at home and then sends it off for approval and final touches.

Poor Animal is from her third EP called Valusia, which was released in 2010. The album cover can be seen above on the left side in the You Tube link. It was the first track on the album however, she didn’t gain recognition until the release of her LP called Stridulum and a successful single called, I Can’t Stand.
