Pierce Brosnan has joined the cast of The Coup. He will star opposite the previously attached Owen Wilson in the action thriller The Coup.

The film will be directed by John Erick Dowdle (Devil, Quarantine). He is set to begin shooting in October from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle. The story centers on an American family that moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves entangled in a violent coup where merciless rebels are attacking the city.

Crime Scene Pictures’ Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are financing the project and have teamed up with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle to produce. Producer Steve Alexander said: “Having Pierce step into the role of a mysterious and ultimately heroic government operative is the perfect compliment to Owen’s everyman dilemma. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
