“I want to please women with my clothes. All of them “.
This is what Salvatore Piccione said when I had the opportunity to meet him for a few short questions at Coin Excelsior, last Friday.
And yes, he definitely knows how to please us.
His distinctive and unique character is strong and determined, despite the sweetness and delicacy of his prints, able to remind of a blooming Spring even for next Fall \ Winter collection, presented on AltaRoma’s catwalk.
“Dress Women with Beauty“, this is his mission. And personally I can’t imagine anything more beautiful than a constant reference to nature.
Exaltation of femininity that is not banally made up of layers of tulle, feathers and coy details but by the main protagonists of flora and fauna that become graphic elements in ‘all over prints’
“I don’t have a single source of inspiration, everything can inspire me“, but nature is certainly the fil rouge that holds together the different suggestions.
And so does the ladybird - that is actually bringing real fortune to the Sicilian designer - in this trip and its red and black colors are featured on the opening dress and keep on appearing, alternated and combined to the imperfect and catchy shape of poppies flowers.
Flowers and birds are reworked and edited with the technique of collage in Photoshop in order to have, level above level, that are transformed into a mesmerizing ‘vegetal camouflage’ printed on layers of light fabrics like chiffon or declined into a pasley print on knit tops and jackets embellished with soft Mongolia.
The narrative of a trip takes place for all the show as a tale made of impressions of a creative journey that mixes values of old memories - Piccione’s Sicilian roots and his family - his education and professional recent past - the five seasons spent working with Mary Katrantzou - and the present life in London.
It’s only been six months since the Who is on next edition proclamed him as the winner, but his style has strengthened and confirmed with details and stylistic features that make it even more recognizable and identifiable.
And if these identifiers listed along with the three-dimensional handmade embroidery a continuous exaltation of nature, personally I can not help but being enthusiastic about this brand
And so, let’s hope that successful collections continue to flourish for the young designer behind Piccione.Piccione.
