So so some may have already noticed that SCE has expanded across the boarder into the US. Phil Vassar is headed to Medina, MN next week and in order to get the word out Tiffany had a little time to chat with Phil and talk about Touring and a few other things. Enjoy.
Minneapolis, MN - High energy, Twitter, fans, coffee, and serious fun are only a snippet of what makes up a Phil Vassar tour. The multi-award winning country music singer-songwriter doesn't lack for good material or entertaining performances when on the road.
Vassar's award-winning background features top songs charted by not only him, but some of the best known artists in country music which include Jo Dee Messina, Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson.
He is always sure to include some of his main hits and throwback album songs such as "Just Another Day in Paradise," "Carlene," and "Six-Pack Summer" but now with a bit of a twist. To avoid his shows lacking in entertainment value, Vassar has made it a complete fan affair. "We don't have a set list anymore; we're just sort of letting everyone dictate what we do. They Tweet their requests and it pops up on a monitor and we start doing songs. It's fun. Really fun. Low pressure and high energy."
Imagine everything from Miley Cyrus to AC/DC, throw in a few marriage proposals and requests for after show beer drinking get-togethers and you have a regular Phil Vassar show. "People do a lot of funny stuff. I've gotten proposals. You never know what you're going to get. I love it. It keeps it light, it keeps it fun and it keeps it spontaneous." He adds, "We just go out there and enjoy it."
Vassar is currently touring, with stops scheduled for Alexandria, VA; Ridgefield, CT; Rutland, VT; Lexington, MA; Medina, MN; Warrendale, PA; Covington, KY; Morgantown, MA and Cadott, WI.
When he is not on tour Vassar finds energy in writing, recording and doing what he was made for - music. Having recently written songs with John Rich of Big and Rich and recorded with Hunter Hayes and Cam, Vassar says, "There are a lot of artists, a lot of these folks and a lot of my friends that keep me motivated and excited about what to do." After five years since the last release, a new album from Vassar is complete and will be released in the near future.
When he is not writing or recording with fellow country colleagues and friends, he can be found in his old bomb shelter turned wine cellar which is most recently the place of his "Songs from the Cellar" podcasts. "We talk about music, play songs and drink wine. It's a great job." Vassar says. "I put a keyboard down there and just started hanging. Some buddies would come over. We would drink wine and write songs. I have a studio down there anyways, so I ran a cable from the studio to the cellar and turned on the high-def cameras and it's just a blast." His guests have included Steve Cropper, Tommy Shaw of Styx and many more.
New music, new album, a growing podcast, and a new tour are all things fans can look forward to. For those that want to have just a bit more of Phil Vassar they can now be the proud owner a Phil Vassar bobblehead named "Lil Phil" by pre-ordering them on Vassar's website.
Vassar's hometown baseball team, the Minor League Lynchburg, VA Hillcats, a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, had a bobblehead give-a-way for the first 1,000 fans that attended their game on August 13, 2010 against Kinston. "My guitar player took one and kept it and he just started putting it all over and started taking photos with it with people. These guys are hilarious." he said, laughing. "It's Lil' Phil today. We just got a new one with new clothes and a new reveal."
There's never a dull moment in the life, spotlight or wine cellar of Phil Vassar. Without a doubt, it sounds like Vassar's entire team is quite the road show while his contributions to country music only get bigger, better and much more entertaining.
