Out of seemingly nowhere, Parquet Courts’ 2012/2013 album Light Up Gold was released to universal acclaim, blazing a trail that few records this year have even come close to approaching. Hailing from Brooklyn by way of Texas, the killer quartet’s penchant for clever punk realness makes it truly difficult for music writers like me to remain objective; when a band as exciting as Parquet Courts announce that a brand new EP is soon to come our way, it’s impossible not to totally geek out, giggling fan-girl style.
The same can be said for “You’ve Got Me Wonderin’ Now,” the snappy, delightfully catchy first single from Tally All The Things That You Broke, out October 8 on What’s Your Rupture? Fans and critics alike woke up to its debut on Friday morning, but not even the weekend has dampened the track’s unstoppable momentum. Like a fierce blast of pure rock ‘n’ roll perfection, “You’ve Got Me Wonderin’ Now” is not just more proof of Parquet Courts’ sheer awesomeness, but also begs the serious question: Why don’t more punk rock songs feature the recorder?
