An eight-member parliamentary committee has been constituted to develop consensus for appointing the caretaker prime minister. The National Assembly Secretariat has issued the notification in this regard.
According to notification, the opposition’s members in the committee are Saad Rafiq, Sardar Yaqoob Nasir, Pervez Rasheed and Sardar Mahtab Abbasi while government’s members are Syed Khurshid Shah, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Farooq Naek and Ghulam Bilour.
The parliamentary committee, which was constituted after the expiry of deadline for opposition and government to reach a consensus over the issue, has the mandate to select a caretaker prime minister within three days.
In case, the parliamentary committee also fails to evolve consensus over caretaker prime minister, the matter will be refereed to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), who will have to finalize one name out of four within two days.
