Hey girlies! Towards the end of last year i was invited to a lovely event with Palmolive (how gorgeous is the gift bag?) to launch their new Ayurituel shower gels! The products are adapted from the Indian tradition of Ayurveda which has been around for more than 5,000 years encouraging people to adopt a healthy, holistic lifestyle! Ayurveda takes a holistic approach by directing us to a healthier and more balanced lifestyle through the combination of mind, body, senses and the soul. Throughout our lives, because of our environment (the way we think, deal with stress, what and how we eat, how we relax and how much we exercise) we travel further away from our natural constitution. The aim of Ayurveda therefore is to bring us back to that natural constitution, and restore balance in our bodies and minds.
According to Ayurveda everything on this planet, including our bodies consists of the five master elements; Space, Air, Water and Earth. Our biological systems combine these five forces into three primary patterns known as 'doshas'. During the event, we were all treated to either a head or hand massage! (I chose the hand one) and were given a sheet to help us work out our 'dosha'. Once you know your 'dosha' you can understand the sorts of foods you should be eating, exercise you should undertake, and the tendencies of your personality (i.e aggression). It's rather clever really. So you're probably wondering what 'dosha' catergory you come into? ...
Vata : Vata dosha consists of air and space, and the main function is movement. People with dominant vata dosha tend to be thin, fast and changeable, and often love any kind of movement, change and travel. They are quick in their thoughts and actions, often good multi taskers. However, they are the sort of people that may not finish their task should another, more interesting one come along. physically, they often feel cold and dry, and love warm food and climates! It's also possible to have too much vata dosha (vata imbalance) which is known if you often feel anxious, overwhelmed, question yourself often, have trouble sleeping, wake up exhausted or find it hard to finish projects.
Pitta : Pitta dosha is a force created by the dynamic interplay of water and fire! The main function of the Pitta dosha is metabolism. People with a Pitta body type are intelligent, sharp, smart and good public speakers! They can also be incredible leaders, scientists, lawyers and teachers! they do however tend to push themselves too hard, and have the tendency to be over ambitious. Pitta dosha arouses anger and jealousy, hence they can sometimes become aggressive, demanding and pushy when out of balance. For those who often feel hot and sweaty easily, are often thirsty, have problems with heartburn and acidity, are self critical, or become angry then your Pitta may be too high!
Kapha : Kapha dosha consists of water and earth elements. Qualities associated with these include being cool, stable and heavy. People with a Kapha body type are strong and solid both physically and emotionally, with great immunity. They tend to take time with decisions, but are loyal friends, very reliable and do not like change. kapha creates calmness, therefore poeple are easy going and relaxed. If your digestion is slow, you feel congested, like to sleep a lot and find it hard to deal with change then your Kapha may be too high!
The new Palmolive ayurituel shower gels therefore reflect certain aspects of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, in order for them to suite everyones 'dosha'. They come in 3 varieties, 1 representing tranquility, one Joyous (my favourite) and the other Energy! Joyous is a really sweet, fruity smell, and the indian Mulberry (No, not the handbag ;) and lotus flower are deliciously prominant! Tanquility, i feel is a much more masculine scent, and also much stronger! Energy, contains indian sand wood and ginger! Therefore its quite a striking scent, and definitely one you would associate with feeling energised! - Perfect for those dreaded Monday mornings!
I really recommend checking out the new Palmolive ayurituel shower gels, you can read more about them on the site here, or check out their twitter and Facebook for regular updates and offers! I'd also love to know if you've tried these products yourselves, and what you think of them? x x x
