Paul Nixon, the former England wicketkeeper, has sparked the controversy by claiming that the third one-day international between India and Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday was fixed.
Despite of restricting the hosts to 167 Pakistan, who had already clinched the series after registering victories at Chennai and Kolkata, failed to chase the modest total and bowled out for 157 in the penultimate over to help the hosts prevent humiliation of whitewash.
“Pakistan throwing this game away eh. Watch this space. Pakistan will just loose last few balls,” Nixon tweeted. “This game is a joke especially when u see hafeez play a lap sweep with a leg slip in place” and “It must be India’s 12th Man…..the Bookmaker!”
Nixon, who represented England in 19 ODIs, also said after clinching the trophy, losing the final game wasn’t a big deal for Pakistan. “2-0 up perfect to loose nothing matters,” he tweeted when a follower questioned his claim.
