OwnPhone: A 3D Printed Cell Phone

Posted on the 09 February 2015 by Anna Peterson

Since its launch in the UK a while back, the OwnPhone has become popular among its UK users, and its creators are now looking to make it available in the rest of Europe and across the US. If you want to help out, you can head over to its official Kickstarter page and order your own OwnPhone. :)

What Is an OwnPhone?

3D printed, the OwnPhone is a very simple, very small cell phone. It is 2G, voice-only handset, and the best part is that you get to design it any way that you want!

3D Printed Mobile Phone

OwnFone is the world’s first 2D/3D printed mobile phone that calls the numbers you need. It’s small, light and infinitely customizable! Using it couldn’t be simpler! There’s no screen, text or internet. Simply press a Word or Image button to make a call. You can have 3D buttons too, like Braille and Raised Text. You can even draw your own buttons!

You can print out a word with 22 characters, an image, 3D buttons, or a full numerical keypad on your OwnPhone, and decide which numbers you want on your phone. You can check out the video of Thomas, the founder of OwnPhone, explaining more about his ideas in the video below. :)

It’s designed as an alternative to smartphones, for times in life when you just need a small, simple, low value mobile phone. Use your OwnFone everyday or use it as an emergency phone when it will still make and receive calls after a year without recharging!
