I have been inspired to return to fashion blogging as well as creative writing. At a party a few weeks back the girls told me they missed it, so I’m coming in hot with this little red number. Now, I know what you are thinking... jeez who took these?! It is true that I have not mastered the art of the selfie. My place is behind the lens not in front of it. I literally just set my camera to continuous shoot and wandered around the room and pulled silly faces at the camera (and did what looks like some kind of salsa). And this ladies and gentleman is what I came up with. Like any good selfie artist, I threw a filter on it and there you have it. I will try my best to continue this ritual before going anywhere special. But you will be happy to know that I have lined up a photographer friend to take some proper shots in the future also.
I’ve always been a little ashamed of my love of clothes. I thought that this passion somehow made me pretentious or shallow. When people would ask me for advice on style, I would be embarrassed. Is this all I have to give to the world?! Team that jacket and those pants and this scarf…
The reality is that women with something to say have a tougher go than men at being taken seriously. That is just the reality and that is how things will stay a little while longer. I believed that I couldn’t love clothes and be vain every now and again and be a serious writer as well. It would make my path even harder. In my head it didn’t fit the mold. But I think that is the special thing about the Sweet Apple site. It doesn’t fit a mold. It is ever changing and evolving as I change and evolve. It’s not just a blog, it is a living thing. A representation of my thoughts and desires and loves and sadness about this world.
I realised something else. I am not a women in love with clothes. I am a women in love with transformation, evolution and natural progression. I express myself and how I feel or want to feel through clothing. When I feel nostalgic, I wear vintage. When I want to feel sexy, I wear a backless dress. When I want to feel powerful, I put wedges on and strut like hell. I got a txt from a friend of mine the other day who was doing some work at the hospital and saw me walk past.
“Just saw you strutting past the hospital like Miss World 2013”
To which I replied…
“I thought my strut was only at Miss World 2012 capacity, I must have upped my game”
I looked down at the strappy wedges perched on my feet…..
‘That’a girls!’
Much love XX
