On Receiving The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

By Steph's Scribe @stephverni

very-inspiring-blogger-fictional-machinesAs I’m approaching my two-year anniversary of blogging in April, it is an absolute delight to accept The Very Inspiring Blogger Award from The Living Notebook. I graciously accept and am extremely thankful for the recognition.

Thank You!

The Living Notebook's Typewriter that he uses. Love it.

The Living Notebook’s Typewriter that he uses. Love it.

After earning his award, on February 11, 2013, I was nominated by recent recipient, The Living Notebook. The Living Notebook is currently part of WordPress’s post-a-day effort; he is writing beautiful and inspiring posts for us all to enjoy and learn from daily. He’s studying creative writing at a large, public university, and I enjoy his posts tremendously, as I also recently received an MFA in creative writing. His posts are entertaining, witty, and lovely because he uses his “living notebook” as inspiration for his writing and thoughts for the future. Take a peek if you get the chance as he continues to pursue his craft. Oh—and sometimes he writes with a typewriter. How very cool.

So now, five quick facts about Steph’s Scribe and me:

  1. I’ve been blogging for two years and can’t imagine stopping. Ever.
  2. I worked in professional baseball for 13 years for the Baltimore Orioles, loved it, and am now writing a second fictional novel loosely based on a girl’s perspective of working in the sport.
  3. I am a professor at a university outside of Baltimore where I teach communication courses—mostly writing—and I love it.
  4. I write about life’s experiences, love (total hopeless romantic), and anything that floats my boat. I also love fashion and will occasionally write about it.
  5. I’ve had a really good time as an independent author. I’ve learned so much along the way, and it’s been an adventure releasing and promoting my novel, a contemporary romance entitled BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE. I didn’t know what to expect as an indie author, and the biggest surprise came when I won a Readers’ Favorite award in November.

Now, I would like to nominate the following blogs for the The Very Inspiring Blogger Award.

  • Jack Flacco and I have been following each other for a couple of years now. His blog has evolved over time, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy his posts. They are always interesting and different. Currently, he is in the process of creating zombie novels, where he gets to blend some of his favorites: action, suspense, and dark humor.  Jack and his family live in Ontario, Canada. When he is not writing, he can be found volunteering for several community, youth, and senior groups. Additionally, supporting the importance of universal literacy, Jack and his wife donate books to families in need. Be sure to stop by Jack Flacco’s blog.
  • I’m really enjoying Katie Noah Gibson’s blog entitled Cakes, Tea, and Dreams. She’s a writer, self-proclaimed bookaholic, editor, knitter, and traveler. Like me, she’s in love with all things British (she hails from Texas but loves all things to do with England as she spent three semesters in Oxford during her college and graduate days). She and her husband live in Boston, and her blog chronicles her adventures in reading, traveling, spending time with the people she loves, and savoring the beauty in ordinary days. There’s some good stuff going on here. Check her out at Cakes, Tea, and Dreams.
  • I’m so glad Kimm found my blog one day, because I’ve been keeping my eye on hers over at Out Of Left Field. Like me, she shares a passion for American baseball and is recounting her love of it through her blog. As my next novel is one about working in professional baseball, it’s been so great to follow Kimm and hear her voice as she shares her love for the game as a fan. She’s also got some beautiful photos on her blog as well. And I promise to forgive her for being an Oakland A’s fan and not a Baltimore Orioles fan. Her blog is truly inspirational, fun, and invigorating. Be sure to stop by Out of Left Field to see her.
  • Caldrons and Cupcakes is a particular favorite because of Nicole Cody’s very interesting background. She can talk about a variety of subjects on her blog. She’s a psychic, metaphysical teacher, organic farmer, writer and lover of life. Her blog is a place where she shares her thoughts, recipes and adventures. (And the recipes are fantastic!) She loves things that are magical, and like her, I believe cupcakes have healing qualities! She wants people to shine, and through her lens at Caldrons and Cupcakes, we get the feeling that we certainly have the ability to do so.
  • I love to peek in on what The Writing Sisters have to say. Laurie Myers and Betsy Duffey are sisters who have been writing for years—they write children’s books and have been doing so for over 20 years. The sisters are represented by WordServe Literary.  With spiritual inspirations and lovely photographs, you’ll enjoy what’s going on at The Writing Sisters blog.

And So…

If this the first time you’ve gotten an award and you want to play along, the rules are: (1) thank the person who gave you the award, (2) say some facts about yourself, and (3) nominate other people for the award. Though I’ve chosen five facts and five nominations, I’ve seen other people do seven nominations or even twelve nominations. It’s up to you…
