Last Fridays Platform Workout!
This is a late post, so please excuse the reference to Friday! Lets be real though… any day doing platform work feels like a Friday right!?!
One thing me and Eron are both interested in is fitness, we work out just about everyday and love learning new lifts and love being active. Before Eron decided to apply to the police academy he was thinking about fitness/personal training as a full-time career. He even became certified as an olympic weightlifting coach! Well, yesterday, we just got the official word that he was accepted into the police academy which starts the 28th. Since Eron is an aspiring police officer now, I have claimed the platform as mine
The website Eron used for the eight-foot square platform plans is called Straight to the Bar. It has all the supplies listed plus step by step instructions for assembly. One hang up we encountered was the plans called for one 8′ x 4′ horse stall (rubber) mat. We were unable to find a rubber mat that size, so we bought two 6′ x 4′ mats from tractor supply, and used the additional piece as a mat for push ups, crunches, etc.
The olympic equipment we purchased was from McKinney Gym Equipment. We stopped by the store in McKinney to see what they had, and left with an order for plates and a bar.
Cost
- The platform cost between $200-$300.
- The 160 pounds (2 10′s, 2 25′s, 2 45′s) of bumper plates cost about $250
- The olympic bar cost $167.69
This is not a cheap project, but If you are serious about lifting, then I think this is a worthwhile investment. Eron had been saving his personal money so he could buy new equipment. I am sure there are thrifty ways to purchase bumper plates and a bar, think used for example…
