Noticing the Patterns

By Healingyoga

When I first heard the saying, "How you do one thing is how you do everything," I was intrigued. I let that idea marinate for a bit and then took a look at my own life, especially my yoga practice. I can talk myself into and/or out of anything, so I figured looking at how I approached my yoga practice would leave no room to hide (or deny). Sure enough, my habits/patterns/ways of being on my mat reflected how I was in my life. Sobering.

I tend to come back to this when I'm feeling off or simply want to do a gut check and see where I am in life. My latest look brought up something interesting -- I tend to be a bit extreme around discomfort. I either avoid it or I go walk the line of going too deeply into it that I risk injury. Yep, that sounds about right. I've noticed some places in my life where I'm a bit too all or nothing. Veeeery interesting.

That's the inquiry of the day -- in the spirit of "how you do one thing is how you do everything," become aware of what's happening for you on the mat. How are you during your practice? What are your habits or patterns? How do you approach your practice? How are you being while you're on the mat? You might just learn something that can help you alchemize something in your life.

And in the spirit of awareness and self inquiry, here are two things  that I'd like to pass on:

--If you'd like to look a little deeper at awareness around your habits, here's a video for you

--If you'd like to go deeper with yourself and/or your yoga practice, one of my all-time favorite yoga teachers, Mark Whitwell, is for the very first time offering an online course entitled The New Intimacy. The course runs from August 24-September 17 and consists of 4 interactive classes, 2 live salons, and a private online community and costs $90. You can learn more about it here

Namaste!
