I have been out in the garden a lot this last week, the weather has been glorious (down in the South anyway) and I wanted to tidy up, weed and trim so that the garden didn’t run away with itself too much over the next few weeks. I have my operation on Tuesday 7 May and after discharge will be staying with my daughter for 5 to 7 days, depending on my recovery rate. I am not going to be able to do any actual gardening for weeks afterwards so the whole process is going to be slightly, no very, frustrating, especially as the garden is now rushing at break neck speed to catch up with itself. As we all know, weeds also grow at the same rate!
Whilst I had intended just to post one photo today for Silent Sunday, there is so much going on now I couldn’t help but want to share it with you. First the Aquilegia, is showing signs of beginning to flower and I so hope that in 2 to 3 weeks time when I return home, the garden will be bursting with the Aquilegia is full flower.
I was so excited to see that the Peony has decided to flower this year. There is only one tight ball of a bud at the moment but here’s hoping that there will be an abundance of flowers, especially after giving up no flowers last year.
This time last year the Geum “Bell Bank” was a mass of flowers but slowly but surely, within just a couple of days it has produced buds that look as though they will be in flower within the next week.
As I said earlier, I had intended just to take one photo, and that was going to be one of the many colourful wall flowers that are scattered around the garden, both in flower beds and in pots. First, my favourite Eyrsimum, Winter Sorbet, which is looking just fabulous at the moment. It really does stand out sitting between the blue Forget-me-nots and the Muscari.
The Wallflowers that I bought in bundles from the local hardware shop have been a 50/50 success. Many have been eaten by snails, but those that have survived are great shades of burnished orange through to yellow.
I am looking forward to returning home, minus ‘Eric’ and on the road to kicking bowel cancer in to touch, where it well and truly belongs. I have kept back one photo which I will schedule for Wordless Wednesday as I will be tucked up in a hospital bed and unable to write the blog. My iPad will be with me and I hope to be back blogging again very soon. Bye for now!
