Truth Captured whole!
At first this seemed a vague topic for me. But, when I went on the streets to ask people on what they thought of the people living in south and north. The answers, well in a word, were shocking.
“North Indians are generally rough and selfish.”“South Indians are caring and honest.”
Don’t go out loud on this one. It’s the thinking of people living in our country. Observations have also shown that many people think just the opposite. But, this is the thinking of south and the thinking of north is just the contrary.
“South Indians prefer being in their shell.North Indians are loud and boisterous.”
Now this is something on which even Chetan Bhagat gave a short glimpse in his books. North Indians prefer to be loud and love to celebrate even small achievements. Whereas, the South Indians prefer to live quietly and try/love to focus on the broader profit. And this brings the third point.
N.I care about achievement and peace of mindS.I care about profit and are more ambitious then the people living in the north
Now, this is a general observation of many people whom we interviewed. They seem to think the same way. They have a specific image set in their mind that South Indian people are like this and north Indian People like that. The most popular difference we got:
North Indian people love to roam around and spend money.South Indian people are very conserved and don’t like to spend money much.
That’s one difference on which many people agreed. They seem to think that the people living in south India are a bit on the small talk and conserved side, whereas, the people of North India just like to go out and enjoy. They have no qualms of any self-doubt (though- even the SI don’t have it)The other thing which also had a pretty much same reaction was that:
The residents of North India believe that the people of South India are reserved and don’t dress up properly for any special event. We agree that they like to be simple at heart and don’t go for show off like us N.I. People, but, sometimes we think that they take that simplicity to a limit – on which we hold them in disregard.
And whereas the South India also is very staunch in their respect. They might agree with the points given by the N.I. (emphasis on the might please) but if someone from the north lives in south, say Hyderabad. And the chap wants to buy vegetables from a local vendor. Sometimes what happens with the chap is that the vendor says the price in Telgu – making it impossible for the North Indian to understand. This has happened with a lot of North Indians, here is a attachment of what happened with people who visited south.
…When I visited south. I had a lot of problem in becoming accustomed to the life style of theirs. And never leave out the torture one has to face if he had just shifted to the south for the first time. They act hostile towards you and don’t seem to have a caring nature at first. But don’t take me wrong, they are good in their own sense. Although I had problems during the starting of my stay there, I had to go over the language barrier (believe me, that was extremely tough), but when done, I was introduced to the world inside the southern trap of India, which made me realize the people living in south are people too ( I know, I know, a dull observation, but lemme go further) they are mostly busy in their own time and care a bit less about what is happening in other’s lives ( and believe me, this a major trump point over the gossip the North Indian Aunties play a major role in. It is nice that no one is snooping in your life and is only caring about his life.)..
Well, now that was the whole thing in a nut shell. Though I am still not good at ending the articles, I hope this did not offend you because this was made in the hope of people letting know what ordinary people think of the two major sides of India. No offense was meant to be taken from this small write up. If you felt so, I am extremely sorry ( said before hand only) In the end, I would like to conclude that our country needs to let go of these small differences which have arisen and let the world know that we are not divided. Stop being so much of a critique towards the opposite side and accept them as brothers and sisters. Making them a part of community and Stand proud on the world map and be known as the country which stands for every single person in the country. Stop doing heinous crimes such as rape and murder. This article was simply a pact to let the people know what others think of them and on how they should come together and make India a better place.
