Nokia Lumia 520 Vs Nokia Lumia 525

Posted on the 31 January 2014 by Anna Peterson

The Nokia Lumia 520 quickly became one of the most popular Windows Phones on the market after its release in 2013. Not too long after that, the Finnish company announced a new phone, another version of the 520, if you will, and released it this month – the Nokia Lumia 525. We’ve decided to compare the two and see if there’s actually any differences between them.

A new version of the popular Nokia Lumia 520 - the Lumia 525.

Dimensions of the new phone are the same as the ones found in the 520 – 119,9 x 64 x 9,9 mm – and just like the Lumia 520, the 525 weighs 124 g. The screen didn’t change either: the Lumia 525 sports a 4in display with a 480 x 800 resolution (~ 233ppi). This puts Nokia’s new handset in the group of mid-sized phones. Now, some of you might be disappointed by the lack of changes in the screen and size department, but the good news is that the 520 and the 525 share the same accessories, including screen protectors, which will definitely save you both time (you won’t have to chase the 525 accessories) and money (if you already have the 520 cases or covers).

Both devices have the dual-core Qualcomm MSM8227 processor clocked at 1 GHz and run on Windows Phone 8 Black OS (the 520 was originally launched with Windows Phone 8, but an update for WP 8 Black has become available since then).

Nokia's Lumia 525 is almost a copy of the 520.

In terms of dimensions, screen size and camera abilities, not much has changed.

Here comes the only difference between Nokia’s two handsets – the internal memory! Where the Lumia 520 has only 512MB of RAM, the 525 has been improved and now sports 1GB of RAM, which means that it’s somewhat faster than its older sibling. Both phones have 8GB of storage that can be expanded (up to 64GB) thanks to a microSD slot.

Unfortunately, the camera specs remained unchanged, but you still get a decent 5-megapixel camera that shoots 2592х1936 photos and 720p videos.

The Nokia Lumia 520 has earned its title as one of the best Nokia phones out there at the moment, but if you want more RAM and a slightly faster phone, we’d recommend the Nokia Lumia 525.
