No DOCTOR WHO Series in 2016! Moffat’s Replacement Announced
The RadioTimes is reporting that there will be no new Doctor Who series for the 2016 season, only to have a Christmas special at the end of the year.
Along with that depressing news, they’ve also reported that Steven Moffat’s replacement has been named, in Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.
The Moff has decidied his time on the TARDIS has come to an end as Doctor Who’s lead writer and executive producer. Moffat will have one more 12-part series, set to air in spring of 2017, to allow for The BBC to create a “huge event” celebrating Moffat’s run as head of the show. Setting up Chibnall’s debut series to be in 2018.
A Christmas special WILL air this year overseen by Moffat, though it is unclear whether Peter Capaldi’s new companion will feature. The companion, who will replace Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald, will definitely be in place for the spring 2017 series
No word on if this will affect Capaldi’s run as The Doctor, but I can unfortunately see both Capaldi and Moffat going out at the same time, setting up a clean slate for Chibnall, same as Matt Smith was for Moffat.
