Nine Killed, 15 Injured in Karachi Burns Road Blast

At least nine people were killed and fifteen others including a judge of Sindh High Court (SHC) in a deadly blast in the Burns Road, Karachi on Wednesday morning.

Justice Maqbool Baqar, a senior Judge of SHC, received minor injuries while his driver and six policemen were killed in the attack.

According to police, it was a remote controlled blast, took place near the intersection of Urdu Bazaar Road and Court Road leading to SHC.

Police said that the explosive materials were strapped around a motorbike and were detonated via remote control when the vehicle of the Judge came close to it.

Several vehicles were completely destroyed in the explosion, which also caused damage to nearby buildings.

According to bomb disposal squad, six kilograms of explosive material was used in the blast and ball bearings and nut bolt were used in the formation of bomb.

The injured people have been shifted to Civil Hospital, where most of injured are said to be out of danger.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and other social and political figures have strongly condemned the attack.
