Samsung was incredibly active in the smartwatch department this year, releasing the Gear 2, the Gear 2 Neo, the Gear Live, and the Gear S, and although the dust has yet to settle when it comes to these four, Samsung is already planning its next smartwatch.
According to a report from South Korea (reportedly, a high-ranking official at Samsung confirmed the info), Samsung might showcase a new wearable at the Mobile World Congress 2015, that will come with a built-in fingerprint scanner. However, this scanner may not require a swipe to register your fingerprint at all.
Aside from that, this new smartwatch will sport some payment features, developed by Samsung in partnership with PayPal. The two companies previously teamed up to enable making payments with the Galaxy S5, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
Samsung is obviously looking to compete with the Apple Watch, which will become available in early 2015, and the company’s probably hoping that this built-in fingerprint scanner will give its watch the advantage it needs.
