Newly-elected MNAs Takes Oath

Posted on the 01 June 2013 by Azharnadeem

The newly elected members of National Assembly took oath on Saturday in the first meeting of 14th National Assembly.

A two-hour delay after the scheduled time of 10 am marred the meeting that marked the beginning of first parliamentary year.

Outgoing speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza administrated the oath from 301 MNAs simultaneously. She himself has become the second speaker to be elected again as MNA after Gohar Ayyub.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, who is recovering from the head and back injuries he sustained after falling from a lifter during an electoral rally in Lahore on May 7, couldn’t participate in the session.

Jamiat-e-Ulama e Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) chief Fazal-ur-Rehman, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi and independent member Jamshed Dasti also not attended the meeting.

The arrival of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif into the lower-house of parliament after 13 years and seven months triggered the slogans ‘sher aya, sher aya’ in the assembly hall.

Parliamentary leaders secured the seats in front rows while the other MNAs were allotted seats as per Urdu alphabetical order.

The session was later adjourned and will resume at 11 am on Monday.
