New Year, New(ish) Blog

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

Hi there! Happy 2014! I hope this morning finds you nursing zero champagne hangovers and hell, maybe you’ve already gone to the gym. Good for you. Resolutions are plentiful for the next eight days, but one of mine affects you, because you’re reading this blog.

New Year's Dessert Table

My NYE definitely looked like this. I most certainly did not eat crab legs in my pajamas while trying to convince my dog that fireworks are her friends.

First of all, you’re likely here because you need to know how to properly size yourself for a Love bangle or spot a fake Rolex Presidential or to learn more about a Canadian couple charged with fraud that is inexplicably one of the highest traffic earners on this site. So thank you for sticking around and clicking around. You may have noticed that Designers & Diamonds has a bit of an identity conundrum (note the URL). This blog started out as the official blog for Raymond Lee Jewelers, the amazing, sparkly sparkly estate jeweler that employs me. But then we got a fancy new website and moved our official blog to our official homepage, and this blog went through a quarterlife crisis trying to figure out who it really was. It took a year off to backpack through the Himalayas, achieved enlightenment, and finally knows what it wants out of life. Starting today, I resolve to turn we’s into me’s and this blog will be the insider account of the fabulous life of Raymond Lee Jewelers’ social media director (moi).

Sapphire and diamond rings and a tanzanite and diamond ring

My fingers. They’re famous.

The content won’t be changing too much – I’ve been writing about jewelry, watches, gold plated Lambos, outlandish celebrity luxury items et. al for the past 2.5 years, and plan to continue along that path, because I love it. You can expect to see the vast majority of jewelry I drool over pulled straight from RLJ’s e-showcases (can you blame me?) However I have a healthy obsession with Jemma Wynne bangles, everything Irene Neuwirth does/thinks about/breathes near, and Juste Un Clou.

How could you not be obsessed? Photo by Jemma Wynne connoisseur @NecessaryExcess (follow her on IG seriously).

I’d like to pull back the diamond encrusted curtain and share more about our industry here. How you can get the best deal on an engagement ring, why buying a pre owned watch is a much better idea than buying a brand spanking new one, and why Kim Kardashian’s stupid huge ring from Kanye, while still smaller than the one her ex-”husband” shamelessly sold at Christie’s, is actually better. And part of that reason is because I have much love for Kanye’s insane self.

Kanye West brilliant crazy genius

Never change, Kanye.

I’ll ramble on about weddings too, because I love them and they are magical wonderful Pinterest-y explosions of sparkle, which is my favorite color. If the word amazeballs turns you off, please avert your eyes (or visit me at RLJ’s Official Blog where I try to maintain some semblance of professionalism and won’t showcase the Rick Ross medallions and chains my boss likes to buy). However if rudimentary Photoshop and endless discussions of how to maximize your diamond budget are your thing, we’ll get along just fine.

Best way to thaw out your fingers? ICE.

I’d also highly recommend following me on Twitter because I have a tendency to get locked out of RLJ’s account while live-tweeting awards shows red carpets for exceeding the tweet per hour limit. Designers & Diamonds is my safe haven for champagne-fueled critiques on Beyonce’s look. Just kidding, I would never critique Beyonce. It’s also where you can take a peek into my life in the snowy, arctic tundra that is Chicago. It’s where I live when I’m not jet setting into Boca to thaw out my fingers and cover them with diamonds. And by jetsetting I mean cursing the existence of Spirit Airlines.

xo,

L
