Stevie Nicks 4 karats of gold

I spent years ignoring Fleetwood Mac in their hay day of the 70s and 80s. As a matter of fact they were not my thing at all and nothing made me turn off MTV faster than “Little Lies”, Fleetwood Mac’s massive hit in 1987. Well, I grew up and obviously my music taste got better, because now not only do I adore Fleetwood Mac, I have realised I want to be in Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks has just released new tracks from her upcoming 24- Karat Gold- Songs From the Vault album, (due out in October) which she recorded in 2 short months with producer Dave Stewart (Eurythmix) in Nashville. 24 Karat Gold has 24 previously unrecorded Stevie Nicks songs dating mostly from between years 1966-1987. Each song is a snapshot of time from that period, or as Stevie describes them, “each song is a lifetime”.  A magazine described her voice, at 66, as a gloriously “ruined rasp”, which really comes to it’s own in the beautifully simple “Lady”, almost a prayer of a song about knocking on closed doors and about feeling lost in life’s cross roads.  It is so easy and effortless, the sound of knowing who you are. Today’s music is so high on hemlines and so low on genuine rock stars, its great to have a real rock queen who can show’em how it’s really done.
