New GOTHAM Details from Fox’s Kevin Reilly

Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly talked about GOTHAM at the Telivsion Critics Association press tour and revealed some new information about what we might see in the series.

We already knew that GOTHAM would focus on a young Jim Gordon in a pre-Batman Gotham City.  Reilly revealed that we will also see a pre-teen Bruce Wayne and the series would follow his journey as he becomes Batman.  He followed that news by announcing that they had bought the full rights to all the Batman characters and even said Joker, Catwoman and Penguin will all be part of the series.  However, he also said that we probably won’t be seeing costumes anytime soon.

All in all, it certainly sounds like GOTHAM will be influenced by what the WB/CW did with Smallville.  Which, considering how popular that show was, doesn’t sound like a bad thing.  Arrow has been doing well on the CW, but Fox has a history of pulling genre shows before they have time to build an audience.  Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD proves that a show that takes place in the same universe doesn’t necessarily mean stellar ratings.  I just hope that Fox gives it time to develop and it sounds like they are committed to a full 22 episode 1st season.
