By I Prefer Organic @ipreferorganic
natural remedies for coughsDo you believe in natural remedies? I remember when I was a kid, I hated them. When I was in my 20s, I neglected them. Now, I love them, especially when they are simple and easy to prepare. The recipes here are natural remedies for coughs. When there is a need, I usually prepare a couple of them for me, my toddler or my husband. The rest are taken from my grandmother or other family members (some of them have never ever bought a medicine for coughs). All these natural remedies for coughs are tested and have proven their positive results.  In most cases, they are even tasty or at least tastier than any medicine you have bought.

Natural Remedies for Coughs – Ingredients

In some of these home remedies for coughs, there is onion. The benefits of onion are not as widely researched as those of garlic. Still, it is known with its anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory properties as well as with lowering the risks of getting certain types of cancer (e.g. colorectal cancer, laryngeal cancer  and ovarian cancer). In order to keep the healthy benefits of the onion in these natural remedies for coughs, it is very important to avoid exposing it to steam for more than 10 min or leaving it chopped at room temperature for more than 2 days.

Other ingredients are black radish, honey, tea from basil or tea from quinces’ seeds.

Natural Remedies for Coughs – Recipes

Recipe 1:

Peel 1 medium yellow onion. Take away its center while trying to shape the onion as a cup. Fill the “cup” with sugar and leave it for 1 night. In the morning, you will find a syrup on the bottom. Drink the syrup before breakfast.

In a jar, order chopped onion and sugar. The top ends with sugar. Leave it for 24 hours. Then drink 1 Tbsp of the juice 3 times per day.

Recipe 2:

Peel, chop and boil 1 yellow onion in 100 ml. water. Once it is boiled, remove it from the heat and strain. Add 1 tsp sugar or honey. Drink 3-4 Tbsp as many times as you want during the day. I usually, do 4 – 5 onions a day for me or my husband.

Recipe 3:

2-3 crushed walnut shells are boiled in 400 ml of water. Remove them from the heat and add 1 tsp of basil and 1 tsp of geranium. Drink it as tea.

Recipe 4:

1 peeled potato, 1 peeled and chopped yellow onion and 1 peeled and cut in small parts red apple. Boil them in 1 liter of water until the water remains in half. Drink 1Tbsp from the juice three times a day.

Recipe 5:

Prepare tea from basil. Add honey and drink.

Recipe 6:

black radish is carved. Fill it with honey and with part of the carved radish. Wait at least 24 hours until a juice is collected inside the radish “cup”. Drink the juice 3-4 times a day. It is very tasty and helps a lot. I usually hollow up 4 – 5 pieces of black radish.

Recipe 7:

Equal amounts of onion juice (see recipe 2), lemon juice and honey are mixed. Drink from it 1 Tbsp every few hours.

Recipe 8:

Take the seeds of 5 – 6 quinces. Put them in 1/3 gal. of water and boil for a few minutes. Then drink it as tea.  The seeds of the quince produce a jelly- like substance that quickly relieves coughing.

Recipe 9:

10 pcs nuts with the shells are washed and placed in 1/3 gal. of water. Boil until the water remains in half. Sweeten with honey and drink as juice.
