NAILBITER #3 Reviewwpid-wp-1404240697665.jpeg

This is it.  This is officially the book I love to hate.  If you’ve read my previous reviews of the title then you know it is not my genre.  Typically, if I review a first issue of a book and it’s something I normally don’t read, I drop it after an issue or two.  That’s just the way it is when there are so many books out there to read.  I may have liked it, but not enough to replace something else in the pile.  However, every once in a while, one sticks with you and sucks you in.  Each month you can’t believe you are reading it, but you also can’t wait to crack it open.  Nailbiter has become that book for me.  Not only is it good, but it is delivering on exactly what I want it to be.  I wanted to know more about all the serial killers from Buckaroo and Williamson is giving me that.  Each issue gives me just a little bit more, but when he giveth, he taketh away since answers usually create more questions.

This issue gives us a continuation of the story with a resolution pretty quick to what happened last issue concerning Edward “Nailbiter” Warren.  We get a flashback, which every good mystery needs, and then we even get some pretty good scary moments.  And thankfully, we get another serial killer reveal and they just keep getting better.

Williamson’s writing, combined with Henderson’s art and Guzowski’s moody colors give this book a very cinematic feel.  It is more like I’m watching it rather than reading it.  The way things are laid out, especially toward the end, had the feeling of a perfect scary movie.  You know what is coming, you are expecting it, but you still jump when it happens.  They manage to do that in this issue to great effect and I love them for it.

Nailbiter mixes together many different elements and delivers on a solid mystery, characters you are interested in and a few good jumps along the way.
