My Winter Essentials #4: Nails

By Behindtheseclosedeyes @theseclosedeyes
Today I have the fourth installment of my winter essentials series and I have to say I'm most excited about this time one because it's all about nail polish. It's no secret that I'm a bit of a nail polish junkie so I was looking forward to putting together my favourites for this time of year. This year I've really embraced deeper shades which is surprising as I've always been a pastel or brights kinda gal (no matter what time of year). There's a lot of Essie love in this post as I've found myself reaching for their shades a lot this winter, and I've now got a few of the new shades on my Christmas list. You can never have enough nail polish, eh?

Rimmel Lasting Finish in Black Cherries: a deep and vampy purple shade that almost looks black after 2 coats. I'm not normally one for wearing dark shades on the nails but Black Cherries has totally converted me and I love how sophisticated and winter appropriate it leaves your nails looking.
Essie Leading Lady: a gorgeous deep red base with red glitter. I love the finish of this polish as the glitter appears as more of a jelly-like finish when it dries and is so perfect for Christmas time. Annoyingly, for some reason the swatch of this polish was just not coming out very well on camera but you can see a better swatch here.
Essie Size Matters: a blue-toned red that I'm absolutely loving this winter. Red isn't a color I wear very often but this deeper shade has been on my nails so much recently that I just had to include it. I'd say this color can be built up to look a bit darker than the shade you can see in the swatch above, so it really depends on how you like to wear your reds.
Essie Lady Like: a greigey-lilac shade that is unlike anything else in my stash. I'm a huge fan of nude shades all year round and I like to think of Lady Like as my A/W nude shade as it's still very neutral with a lovely hint of lilac to warm up your skin tone. I also love to wear this shade with a glitter accent nail as it really jazzes up the neutral color.
Kate Spade by Nails Inc in Uptown Glamour: a pretty metallic gold shade that is so perfect for the party season. I'm quite new to metallic nails as I'd always preferred cream finishes, but the finish and color of Uptown Glamour has totally changed my mind. There's something about gold nails that just glams up any outfit so this nail polish gets a big thumbs up from me.
