My Week On Wednesday is a weekly link-up post in which I share with you what I've been reading, what I'm reading next, and any other bookish stuff I enjoyed in the past week! (Click on book images to view Goodreads page.)
Just shelved:
This book turned out to be a bit more work than I had anticipated, but was worth it in the end. It's long, it deals with a multitude of heavy topics, and it's jam packed with characters to get to know. It's got what I'm coming to refer to as "the Judy Blume feel" - very focused on how characters deal with adversity, full of characters that are both heroes and disappointments, and ultimately about the work it takes to maintain sense of self. Full review coming shortly.
Currently reading:
I'm about three quarters of the way through The Little Paris Bookshop, which is by turns whimsical, sad and joyful. It's incredibly quotable (I've peppered my copy with flags) and it seems like every other page has a line worth soaking in. I'm just starting Free Days With George, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it.
Up next:
I've got so many excellent books on my horizon that I don't even know which will be next. I'm planning a readalong of Ghettoside with a whole contingent of blog friends, and I'm sure there will be some excellent discussion to come out of it. I'm still only part way through Post Office, which I plan to go back to when I've finished my current reads, and I'm determined to finally get to We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves at some point this summer!
We're in the middle of a heatwave up here in Canada, so I'm celebrating Canada Day by turning on all the fans in the house and subsisting on a diet of ice cold beer and ice cream. Here's hoping it's a smidge cooler wherever you are! Link up or share your week in reading in the comments!
